Guns are almost impossible to control in Thailand which has
the highest number of them per capita in Asia.

Local provinces in Thailand appear to operate as fiefdoms
outside the control of Bangkok and more often than not police defer to the ‘nak
raeng’ – local mafia.

Media coverage will kickstart promises of action; continuing that pressure may slowly change the culture. The Kirsty case had coverage – much from AD – right up to last year, but has got nowhere. I would not take bets but I can't see any change. It is still right though to keep up the pressure. The FO should play stronger cards.
Has it not been extensively covered that the gun used for the slaying on Haad Rin was a home made gun? If so how on earth does this help to stop this kind of crime. Knee Jerk reaction as always and not very well thought out.
