have heard journalists use) all on a stipend of 2000 baht a month.

Consular Section is spot on. I maintained a very good relationships privately

Embassy official witness as the tiny little flagpole at the front was removed.
(Obviously this car was not much good for surveillance and what Britain’s civil
service dictates goes, so he actually used a Japanese model with false plates)

They will talk to me but getting ordinary police, below Chief Super, to talk nowadays other than through a

expecting an answer. As for the press office – its best to talk to people in London who are not so paranoic.

his Thai wife and cute daughter? This was one of Barry’s first jobs and Barry
turned up in shorts and a colourful shirt to deal with the issue. (For what happened you will have to read the book then warn your Thai wives.)
Barry in turn was criticized by the Embassy for stepping into the limelight. ‘Its not cricket’ he says he was told, as he continued to strive to adjust the image of Embassy officials as chinless gin drinking wonders down to gay street cred..
the amazing behind the scenes private efforts he was making for Britons in Pattaya –

from one or two mugshots (not the one above) all I could find was surveillance photos of his home and car

Any thought that you can get a visa for a Thai girlfriend by clearing with a friend at the Embassy (as I have done in the past. I even let the Deputy Head of Mission dance with mine… dance only mind) you can just forget. – but he does concede that what help you get does still tend to rest on who you are.
Perhaps worth also pointing out that with an Amazon account, you can download a free sample
I just downloaded to my PC – thought it best he get the cash. Will use my free sample on 'Goudie's Life Story'
I appreciate your tireless efforts in "telling it as it really is". Why do other Thai forums, including Richard Barrow's, censor and filter? I really would like to know.
You need look no further than the behaviour of the Thai expat forum owners and moderators. Thaivisa in particular has had a few 'rum characters' amongst its team. Not surprising then that they don't encourage investigative journalists poking their nose around.
Probably want to stay alive or at best live peacefully
Not that I don't wish to stay alive or live peacefully!!
Just finished the book, great work Barry I thoroughly enjoyed your stories… kept me out of the bar tonight so great value too!
Not sure whether its you Barry or Mr Goudie but this site peaked at 337,000 hits last month – this morning just before 7 am! That's the time the figure readjusts
It's amazing more posters don't realise that, Ian. I feel sorry for the expats / tourists that believe all they are told on those sites, not knowing they are filtered and censored. Good news that the AD site peeked at 337000. Let's hope that's an indication of a change in the way expats use Thai forums in the future. Most of us want free speech and unbiased and terrier-like reporting.. reporting. Good on you, Andrew.
Not sure whether it's you Andrew or the Tooth Fairy, but the sales of the book tripled in 24 hours after your review above. We are already looking at a second edition and a paperback. Actually, my only aims in writing the book were to provide some plain speaking about embassy-related stuff and to share some of the humour which I found was necessary for survival.
I must write one myself Barry – but I need more than the Tooth Fairy right now! – But that is great news. When are you going to do the rounds of the TV and Radio stations – get interviewed by Tommy Dee!!
