A young Thai girl called ‘Im’ was this week welcomed back to Denmark with her mum in what was almost a ticker tape parade after being deported by the government when her stepdad died of cancer.
The Danish government had ruled, as stupid governments do, that ‘Im’ had more in common with Thailand than this small but nevertheless historic Scandinavian country.
She was greeted at the airport in Aalborg by her schoolmates after being allowed to return. The government U-turned after an enormous press and public outcry. The pictures are enough to bring tears to your eyes.
Denmark like most European countries is suffering from serious immigration problems. Its led to, as usual the growth of support for right wing groups. The country has however been fairly tolerant in that regard and has even allowed the existence of the Danish National Socialist Party.

They do not get much attention but get more votes in times like this.
The Danes had an active resistance in the Second World War. My mother was a teenage messenger.
Many older Danes still have a hatred for the Germans who occupied their country – although of course both German and English is taught in Danish school. I believe they used to have an RAF (Royal Air Force) Day in Denmark to celebrate a Mosquito raid on a Gestapo prison in Aarhus – even though lots of Danes died.
I was actually born in Copenhagen as my mother, who apparently loved the RAF, er, well, ONE of its pilots, went back to her parents for my birth – while my father was away on one of his month long flying schedules.
Thankfully I was whisked back to my parental home at the time in Ascot, Berkshire, before I knew how many wives Henry V111 had or knew the origins of a Cornish Pastie and thus did not have to face British immigration grilling.
Im Nielsen has little clue about Thailand and of course speaks Danske. Well done Denmark.

These are unintended consequences of policies designed to end the abuse of the immigration systems of certain European countries where people who are themselves immigrants exclusively marry people from their or their parents country of origin in order to facilitate immigration and a further influx of people. It was never meant to stop children like this it was always to stop , in Denmark's case' Morroccans who speak Arabic at home from arranging a marriage to another Moroccan to come to Denmark then live as Moroccans seeing Denmark as a foreign country to be exploited. In the UK we have people who insist that their children marry a cousin from the same village in Pakistan or Bangladesh, money generally exchanges hands and a new generation of immigrants who refuse to integrate is engendered.
For that matter how many wives did Henry VIII have?. There are two possible answers can you name them?
Well without checking internet six. But I cannot remember them all – Anne Boleyn, Catherine of Aragon, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard?
Ok I missed Jane Seymour and Kathryn Parr and apparently is Kathryn Howard. So I guess you hacve found another. I'm still trying to count the wives of Drew Noyes.

Ok the answer is either 3 or 4 Wives.
If you believe that the marriage to Katherine of Aragon was legal then there were 3 wives. Katherine of Aragon, Jane Seymour and Anna of Kleves
If you beleive Henry VIII then there are 4 since Katherine of Aragon and Anne of Kleves were annulled
The Noyes question is more complicated given the mutiple forms of conjoined relationships in Thailand

That's not true only the other night I was out with a mate quite late at night when some kids playing in the Soi gathered around us and one of them approximately 18" high launched a kick at me but missed.
This is truly an enjoyable story, Andrew. Pity some people have to put their negative slant on it!

p.s. My (half)brother's dad was also a flyer in WW2, but never made it back. Maybe my bit of good fortune… who really knows… ?

Cato, My opinion is simply based on my experiences without a Thai wife running interference for me on all things- Thais generally detest foreigners and are only helpful or friendly when they benefit from it.
Allow me to submit that you actually have a " Christy Chip " on your shoulder, and are among the numerous Old Goat types of internet warriors populating the forums with a personal dislike of me from my strongly stated opinions.
Good grief, aren't the FBA and other business and visa rules proof enough of the Thai's xenophobia? Certainly can find enough belly-aching on the forums to substantiate my opinion.
