A 48-year-old Briton has died in hospital in Britain after over a year on life support after being attacked in a Thai beach resort.
Paul Ayling, from Thorpe Bay, Essex, had been attacked in Hua Hin, 140 miles south of Bangkok . The British Embassy in Bangkok have notified Thai police who confirm the matter is now a murder enquiry.
Embassy officials notified police both at national and provincial levels.
The matter has been reported to the Coroner’s Office in Chelmsford, Essex, and an inquest is expected to be held in Britain.
Paul Ayling finally passed away at the Ramsay Neurological Services care home in Sawbridgeworth, Herts, where he was diagnosed PSV – Persistent Vegatative State.
But despite the family’s complaints that they supplied the names of the killers, police in Thailand say they have made no headway in their investigation. Enquiries are continuing.
Paul Ayling, a kitchen fitter and decorator, had been in a coma since November 21st last year when he and his wife Justine were attacked in Hua Hin, where they had gone to live near Paul’s brother, Steve, another builder in the resort.
They were riding home on a motorcycle, having taken their 12-year-old son Scott to an international school, when they were attacked by two Thai men who leapt out of the bushes. One landed a blow with a wooden stave caving Ayling’s skull in.
Said Justine: “I cradled Paul in my arms. There was blood everywhere. He has never spoken since.”
Paul Ayling had been in disputed with a Thai contractor over work which he refused to pay.
Prior to the attack he had received an email in relation to the dispute which included the following:’
If you refuse to pay us we have other means to make you pay but let us do the best and soft way first. Please also pay the carpenters as they don’t know how to play soft’.
Parents Michael and Anita Ayling, who also went to live in the resort, the location of the King of Thailand’s Summer Palace called ‘Far from Worries’, said they had put out a reward and been given the names of Paul’s attackers.
“The police did not seem to care,”said Anita. “There was no forensic investigation and the club used to attack Paul was just left lying around the police station.”

The email was clearly written by someone whose first language is English and not one scribed by a lower end Thai engaged in construction work.
Presumably, you have more information which you cannot print Andrew in which case it's difficult to come to any conclusion about this affair.
Given the lack of response from the local police it seems that the vicitim did not have the protection of the BiB others there in Hua Hin enjoy.

I agree with Gerry the email appears to have been cleaned up into good English by a farang.
Only way forward is to keep these news stories in the public domain until someone thinks it's time to deal with these realities. It will be slow. Kirsty Jones was 10 years ago and that is still being ignored.
Doi, There is no dealing with it. This fatalism is ingrained for centuries. We have to live with it though it is odious. We can bitch and moan and suggest and pray and pay and bribe… Then we give up and others come. We are like rinsed laundry in a spin cycle. Some of us are really get wrung, too.

Confused by your comments. You say we can't deal with it but go on to suggest we warn travellers of the dangers – so clearly we are advocating dealing with it.
Andrew's continued terrier-like efforts in bringing these incidents into the public domain is to be applauded and in my view is certainly worthwhile. So I have to disagree with your conclusion.
Reference to an incident between Ayling an estate agent has been removed. I think it was innappropriate.

To warn others .. WARNING WARNING is the only action I can take that has any effect. This culture is old, foreigner ideas of justice are very new to it. I guess long term yes any immigrant class will have an effect. Maybe that is why women are married off. mmmmmm. Does a minister out there really have an ingenious master plan?
